An environmentally-friendly world’s first by RASTAL

Seven-colour, fully automatic UV-printing machine enhances the appeal of drinking glass decoration even more
 
They are environmentally-friendly and their decoration motifs are photographic. And these are just as durable as those on customary drinking glasses: RASTAL began production of photorealistically decorated drinking glasses on a very new type of automatic UV-printing machine at the beginning of April, implementing an innovative UV-printing technique.  In the past this was regarded in the industry as unfeasible. RASTAL therefore cooperated with the printing machine manufacturer ISIMAT Drucktechnik GmbH in the development of the required seven-colour, fully automatic UV-printing machine. This widens the design scope for RASTAL Exclusive Glasses for individual beverage brands or promotions and enhances their brilliance still further.
 
The visible advantages of this world’s first for the customer are in the decoration: the environmentally-friendly inks offer a wide colour-spectrum that can be used with a 4-colour screen print in the CMYK scheme. Transparent colours and tones with gold or silver effect can be printed in the same way as normal coloured inks. A combination with customary printing techniques is also possible. 
 
As an additional innovative possibility, the specially hardened, durable “superstrong” glasses can be printed using this new technology.
 
On 2 April 2009 the production unit was ceremoniously commissioned by Mr  Hendrik Hering, Minister for Economics, Transport, Agriculture and Viniculture of Rhineland-Palatinate.
 
 
UV printing with many impressive advantages
 
  • Energy efficient and thus environmentally friendly. Whereas ceramic inks must be baked at around 600 degrees Celsius, with UV inks the oven stays cold. Here, the glass – per colour only once – goes under the UV lamp
  • The extremely break-resistant, hardened SUPERSTRONG glasses offered by RASTAL can be decorated with no problems, without the hardening being destroyed by the heat that is generated during the baking of inks. 
  • The UV inks contain absolutely no risk-creating heavy metals.
  • 4-colour screen print in the CMYK scheme can applied with precision and also enables finest decoration.
  • Imitation gold and silver, special effects colours and transparent colours are also possible.
