YESTERDAY MEETS TODAY.

Creussen

This small pottery town began to achieved fame early in the 17th century. The stoneware always has a brown surface, produced by firing with pinewood and glazing with a black salt. From the very beginning, Creussen stoneware had decorative relief applications. Colourful painting with enamel colours, carried out by former glass painters, made the vessels sumptuous and very desirable. The enamel-painted tankards with applied apostle figures or allegories of the planets count today among the most precious stoneware artefacts.
