Central and east German stoneware centres Apart from the Rhenish centres, in Saxony and Thuringia as well as in Lusatia and Silesia there were in early times centres in which stoneware of outstanding quality was produced. In particular, Waldenburg, whose foundation charter of the potters' guild dated 1388 still exists, deserves to enjoy a similar high standing as Siegburg in western Germany in regard to stoneware production. The development of central and east German stoneware took place to a large extent independently, the achievements of the craftsmen rank equally with those of the Rhenish masters.
